You’ve caused me so much worry, Olive. I near fainted when your mother told me she was having you. I panicked when you first became a woman. I still remember the red everywhere. I couldn’t sleep all night when you stayed at the house of that fellow you were smitten with.
You stole my heart, when you first clutched my thumb as a baby. Your eyes spoke volumes even then. They spoke to me when you didn’t know words. Later, they spoke to me when you didn’t have the right ones.
Your eyes were always a stormy blue sky. I’ve tried to capture their color in my final glasswork. There’ll be no more after this.
