With assistance from my young apprentice Archibald, we have gathered enough specimens of Ipomoea prismatica to study its uses. While I explore its medicinal uses, for some local claims of use appear to be unfounded, I have tasked Archibald with trialing different ways to extract the essence of the petals to be used as a dye. He claims his first attempts suggested the mordant lacked a strong enough coordination complex to hold I. prismatica’s full spectrum of color, leading to a monochromatic result. Alternate theories suggest that the color is not produced by the spirit of the plant itself, but perhaps the combination of it and the surrounding light. Further inspection of the specimen is required.
